Throughout the day we will share our local knowledge with you about the iconic dale of Malham Dale and take in the stunning sights of:

• Gordale Scar

• Malham Cove

This is a pay and display car park and there are toilet facilities.
On arrival we will just check everyone has the necessary kit. We then head off through farmland pastures to Janet’s Foss. Janet’s Foss in a small waterfall nestled in a beautiful woodland. It used to be used as natural sheep dipping spot for the local farmers and now it’s a spot where many people come for a little dip or to try and see the magical queen of fairies Jennet.
Leaving Janet’s Foss we will head to Gordale Scar which is a 330 feet limestone scar in the landscape. There are two options to get out of Gordale Scar either by a 10ft climb or via a zig zag path which gives chance to few the scar from above.
Once above Gordale Scar we keep north west to Malham Tarn (where we’d aim to stop for lunch.) Malham Tarn a glacial lake which is only one of eight alkaline lakes in Europe and it is the highest marl lake in Great Britain. Marl or marlstone is a carbonate rich mud/ mudstone which is made up of clays and silts. With our tummy’s full from lunch and our energy levels topped up we head down the dry valley called Watlowes to the limestone pavement on top of Malham Cove. Here you get to find out about clints (small blocks of limestone) and the grikes (deep crevices within the limestone) and hopefully get to see some rare plants that live within the grikes.
Leaving the limestone pavement on top of Malham Cove we descend Malham Come via the steps. Once at the bottom you can absorb the full scale of the 110m limestone wall of Malham Cove. It is home to some of the best and hardest sport climbing in the world and has for many years been a breading ground for Peregrine Falcons the best time of year to try and see them is in June and July. Leaving Malham Cove we have a short walk through farm pastures back to the village of Malham. Here you are more than welcome to head on your way or join us for a drink in (or out) one of the local pubs.
What do I need to bring?
Once you’ve booked you will receive a recommended kit list. The main items though are:
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• Walking boots
• Lunch (picnic style, no alcohol)
• Water (1L minimum)
• Backpack (to carry lunch etc
• Any personal medication (such as inhaler)
• Hat and gloves
The walks are limited to ten people and are sold on a first come first serve basis. It is suitable for 12 years olds +. If the day we have selected each month doesn’t work for you or you’d like a private guided walk, please get in touch.
