The Yorkshire Three Peaks is an exciting challenge and a fantastic day’s walking. The walk follows a circular route throughout the Pennines. The route covers 24.5 miles (39.2km) and climbs over 1500 metres through some of the most spectacular countryside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Three Peaks are:
- Pen-y-Ghent 694m
- Whernside 763m
- Ingleborough 723m
This challenge is usually completed in a continuous loop and the allocated time is 12 hours. If a member of the party cannot or does not want to continue at any point there are a number of opportunities to stop walking and either get a taxi or the support vehicle back to Horton in Ribblesdale.
We encourage people join the Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club. If you complete the walk within 12 hours you can join the coveted “Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club” which was set up by Peter and Joyce Bayes. To be eligible for membership you must book out and in again at the Pen-y-Ghent Cafe in Horton in Ribblesdale using their antique clocking in and out machine. On successful completion you will be a member of the club and be eligible to wear a Three Peaks t-shirt, tie or drink Yorkshire Tea out of a Three Peaks mug. This merchandise can be bought in the cafe.
